A Letter from your RIA President

Published on | harry chandler | News & Updates

Hello Friends, I hope this note finds you well and that today has been kind to you. I’ll be honest, when I first sat down to write this letter, I had a sloppily handwritten checklist of points I thought I needed to cover. But after a call with our Vice President, Lindsey Mulder, and our Executive Director, Terry Schalow, I set that list aside.

What kept tugging at me was something I shared in an earlier letter; the idea of togetherness and community. That word, togetherness, keeps circling back in my heart, especially as I think about everything happening around us and in our nation. Please know my intention here isn’t to give an opinion or a stance, it’s simply to check in.

How are you? How are your families? How are your teams, your neighbors, your communities? In the daily goings of our responsibilities and all the moving pieces of life, it’s easy to forget, but we are human before anything else. We need care and we need each other. So take care of yourselves, and take care of one another. Call a friend just to say “hey.” Those little moments of connection matter more than we realize.

You’ve been on my mind a lot lately, and that naturally brings me back to the Running Industry Association; its necessity, its purpose, and its future.

At the heart of what we’re building is this, to be a true resource for our membership. Sometimes that means tools, sometimes it means opportunities, and sometimes it simply means being here to listen. As we prepare and plan for what’s ahead, I want to remind you that a new Board will soon be selected. This is important, because who we choose to represent us shapes the direction of our mission. Who do you believe can serve with integrity, impact, and care? Sit with that question, and when the time comes, please make mention of those individuals. We’ll be filling three retailer seats and one brand seat.

I’ll close with this: I’m here. Always. I’m available to connect, to learn, to listen. I hope to catch up with many of you soon, whether over the phone, on a Zoom, or in person. I’d love nothing more than to hear how you’re doing.

Cheers,

Harry
