President’s Letter - RIA Direction Update

Published on | Eric Contreras | News & Updates

Over the past few weeks, the RIA Board and staff have been focused on continuity, clarity, and the work ahead. Like any organization, the RIA will change and continue to evolve, but our purpose remains the same: to support, connect, and strengthen the run specialty channel. As Board President, I want you to know that our focus remains squarely on our strategic priorities. That includes growing and deepening retail membership, improving the value we provide to all members, creating more meaningful opportunities for connection, and building a stronger structure for the organization moving forward.

A major part of that work is assessing and improving the value of RIA membership. We know that membership has to be more than a logo, a newsletter, or a once-a-year event. It should help members connect with peers, learn from one another, access useful resources, and feel part of a stronger industry community. That is the standard we are working toward.

We are already looking ahead to several important opportunities to bring members together. Planning is underway for the 2027 RIA Summit, and we are continuing to schedule upcoming Huddles, Mastermind sessions, and new ways for members to connect throughout the year. We are also working on how to elevate the member experience at The Running Event and create more intentional spaces for retailers, brands, and industry partners to engage with one another.

Just as importantly, we are listening. In the months ahead, we will be asking for feedback on where the RIA can be most helpful, what benefits matter most, and how we can better support the real needs of our members. That feedback will help guide our decisions and ensure that the organization is focused on work that is practical, relevant, and valuable.

At its core, the RIA is about membership and connection. Our strength comes from the retailers, brands, associate partners, and industry leaders who choose to participate, share ideas, and invest in the future of run specialty. The Board and staff are committed to building on that foundation and making the RIA more useful, more connected, and more responsive to its members. We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress.

Thank you for your continued support of the RIA and for the work you do every day to strengthen this industry.
