Run Specialty Hall of Fame Honors Industry Leaders at the 2026 RIA Summit

Entering the Hall of Fame in the Retailer category was John Benedict, founder of Playmakers. Throughout his career, Benedict has been recognized as a champion of specialty retail, building a store culture centered on exceptional customer service, community engagement, and a commitment to assisting other retailers in growing their businesses. Including two terms as RIA Board President, Benedict’s leadership made him one of the most respected run specialty retailers in the country.
Inducted in the Brand category was Thom Abrams, whose long and distinguished tenure with Superfeet helped strengthen the relationship between brands and specialty retailers. Known for his dedication to retailer education, product knowledge, and partnership, Abrams became one of the industry's most respected and trusted representatives, leaving a lasting mark on the run specialty channel.
The Hall of Fame also recognized Nico Marmoud and Jean-Luc Diard in the Industry Influencer category. As co-founders of HOKA, Marmoud and Diard introduced a revolutionary approach to running shoe design that challenged conventional thinking and transformed the footwear landscape. Their vision for maximal cushioning and innovative geometry ultimately disrupted traditional product development and helped redefine what runners expected from performance footwear. The influence of their work continues to be felt throughout the running industry, inspiring innovation across brands and creating new possibilities for runners.
As Jim Weber put it, "The Run Specialty Hall of Fame exists to recognize those whose contributions have strengthened our channel and inspired others to lead, innovate, and serve," said Weber during the presentation. "This year's inductees represent the very best of what our industry has to offer."
The Hall of Fame ceremony set the tone for the entire Summit, bringing energy, inspiration, and a deep appreciation for the people who have helped shape the run specialty channel. Hearing the stories, experiences, and perspectives of this year's inductees created an immediate sense of connection and pride, generating momentum that carried throughout the week and reminded attendees of the impact individuals can have on our industry.
