Runners Plus is a locally owned running specialty retailer serving the Dayton community for more than 20 years. We help people move better, run farther, and live healthier through expert service, strong community connections, and a passion for the sport.

We are seeking a Retail General Manager to lead our local retail operations, develop our team, and ensure our stores consistently deliver a high-level customer experience. This role is responsible for the overall performance of our local retail locations and offsite sales channels, including sales results, staff leadership, store operations, and community engagement.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Store Performance

  • Own store performance across sales, payroll, profitability, and customer experience
  • Identify operational or sales issues and implement solutions
  • Drive consistent execution and results across locations 

Team Leadership

  • Manage store staff across locations
  • Hire, onboard, and develop team members
  • Set clear expectations for customer service, behavior, and sales execution
  • Address underperformance and maintain strong team accountability

 

Retail Operations

  • Ensure stores are clean, organized, and well merchandised
  • Oversee scheduling and labor efficiency
  • Maintain consistent store standards and operational processes 

Community Engagement & Events

  • Support group runs, races, and local events
  • Ensure offsite events are staffed and executed well
  • Maintain strong connections within the local running community

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with buyers, operations, and marketing to ensure alignment across the business

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys leading people, improving performance, and creating a great in-store experience.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Decisive and confident, able to make leadership decisions while also listening to team input
  • A strong communicator who can coach staff, provide feedback, and build a positive team culture
  • Comfortable holding people accountable while maintaining a supportive environment
  • Hands-on and visible on the sales floor, leading by example with customers and staff
  • Able to balance day-to-day operations with bigger-picture performance goals

 The right candidate will be proactive, reliable, and comfortable taking ownership of store performance and team development.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required

  • 3–7+ years of retail leadership experience
  • Strong team management skills
  • Understanding of retail KPIs and performance drivers

Preferred

  • Multi-store management experience
  • Experience in footwear, run specialty, or active lifestyle retail

COMPENSATION

  • $65,000 – $80,000 salary
