A Message from the RIA Board President

Dear RIA Members,

I hope this letter finds you well. It is with mixed emotions that I write to you today, as my term on the Running Industry Association Board comes to an end on January 31st.  Serving on the RIA board for the past three years, and particularly the last two as Board President, has been a privilege.

I would like to thank you all for your support, which has been pivotal in what the RIA has achieved as an organization. The dedication and commitment of our members have played a key role in shaping the RIA, and each one of you has contributed to our collective success.

I also want to express heartfelt thanks to my fellow board members, whose support for our mission has been instrumental in driving the RIA forward. This organization will remain in good hands with the committed individuals who make up our board.

Before I exit my role, I am excited to share some developments that will define the RIA's path in 2024. Recognizing the importance of directly engaging with our members, we will be convening small group conversations led by board members in the next month. This interactive approach aims to better understand your perspectives on our organization, and explore ways the RIA can further support your businesses.

Additionally, in the next few months, the RIA will lead a multi-faceted discussion on Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) sales,  providing diverse perspectives on this critical topic.

These initiatives underscore our commitment to proactive engagement and the continual growth of our industry.

And I’m happy to say that in the coming weeks we will be launching the Product Data Collaborative—which as you know has been a monumental project, but one that will streamline our retailers’ ability to secure and manage brand product data.

Finally, mark your calendars for the RIA Summit in May. This event will go beyond brand presentations, featuring programming sessions focused on preparing the run specialty channel to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving business climate. It's an exciting step forward, and I am confident that this summit will be a catalyst for positive change.

I am immensely proud of the groundwork we are laying to support these initiatives. As I step down from my role, I look forward to growing alongside each of you in the dynamic landscape of the running industry. The work is ongoing, and together, we will continue to build a stronger channel that adapts and thrives.

Thanks again for your support. Here's to the future and the continued success of the run specialty channel.

Warm regards,

Ross Martinson
