Kicking Off 2024 with Incredible News: It is with great pride that we announce, RUN THE BLOCK, a new mentoring and grant initiative dedicated to increasing ownership amongst Black, Indigenous, and other people of color (BIPOC) within the running industry. Thanks to initial support from Brooks Running, we are dedicated to seeding up to $200,000 and nurturing groundbreaking concepts in retail ownership, with the aim of facilitating the opening of a retail running shop.

We’re taking a focused approach, starting with Black ownership in the running industry. This decision reflects our recognition of the unique challenges faced by Black business owners. It’s a step toward addressing specific needs within the BIPOC community, with the plan to broaden our reach and support more groups in the coming years. We see RUN THE BLOCK as a dynamic, evolving initiative that grows with our community’s needs, always keeping the RIDC mission at the forefront.

Our First Workshop of the Year: Last year, we took lessons from our first workshop about "Creating an Inclusive Event" and used them to curate a large-scale community gathering and fundraiser we titled "THE COOKOUT, hosted by the RIDC." For this upcoming workshop, we will revisit those lessons and discuss the successes and challenges we experienced while implementing them. Additionally, we’ve assembled a panel of seasoned event organizers, who’ve hosted inclusive events, for an enlightening discussion followed by a Q&A. This is a public workshop with content for employees of brands, retailers, race events, and run clubs gearing up to host community events this year to reach and engage BIPOC communities.
