Product Data Collaborative Update

Published on | Terry Schalow | News & Updates

When it comes to RIA initiatives, there are none that match the scope and ultimate value that the Product Data Collaborative (PDC) represents. So naturally I’m excited to let our membership know that the PDC buildout is currently in its design stage, which is scheduled to last throughout the month of July.

For those unfamiliar with the project, the initiative aims to enhance the concept of "ease of doing business" by alleviating the burden of gathering, formatting, and managing brand product data. By providing a centralized and standardized repository for product data, the PDC simplifies the process for retailers and streamlines their operations.

Looking ahead, the next stage of the project, implementation, is scheduled to commence in August. During this phase, the focus will be on loading product data into a working model, ensuring that the system is capable of effectively managing and distributing the information. This step is crucial in establishing an intuitive interface for the collaborative tool that we’ll present to membership.

In September, user training will begin, enabling retailers to familiarize themselves with the PDC and its functionalities. This training will equip them with the necessary skills to navigate and utilize the platform efficiently, maximizing the benefits it offers.

The projected timeline for the Go Live data is set for mid-October. At this stage, the PDC will be fully operational, and retailers will have access to the centralized repository of product data. This will simplify product data management processes, significantly reduce data corruption, and enhance the overall efficiency of retail and brand product data sharing.

Some of the key features and benefits that the PDC will offer include:

  1. Centralized Repository: The PDC will provide a single, centralized location where retailers can access and manage product data. This eliminates the need to search for product data across multiple brand sources and reduces the time and effort required to secure data.
  2. Standardized Data Format: The PDC ensures that product data is standardized, which reduces data corruption and enhances transactional efficiencies across third party platforms.
  3. Streamlined Data Management: By removing the burden of formatting and managing product data, the PDC simplifies the process for retailers. They can focus on utilizing the data rather than spending valuable time on data formatting and maintenance.
  4. Product Assortment Selection in a Templatized Format: The PDC offers brands the advantage of selecting seasonal product assortments and instantly populating templates for automatic upload to point of sale (POS) systems and other third-party platforms. This streamlined process saves time and ensures consistency across various platforms.
  5. Dashboard Customization: The PDC provides retailers and brands with the ability to customize their dashboards and notifications according to their specific operational needs and preferences. This feature empowers brands to have a tailored, at-a-glance view of key tasks and data changes, while retailers can set their dashboards for important product changes, with MAP pricing updates at the top of the list.
