RIDC Spotlights “Anchors of Black History”

Published on | RIDC | News & Updates

Throughout February, the Running Industry Diversity Coalition (RIDC) spotlighted Black leaders who made history, or are currently making history. Just like the anchor in a relay, these “Anchors of Black History” made great strides to advance Black people and the world of running.

Abigail Sharpless, program manager of the Running Industry Diversity Coalition (RIDC), wrote this article on the RIDC blog in February to spotlight Black leaders who made history, or are currently making history.

Sharpless wrote, “Although we will not be able to spotlight everyone, we hope that you learn something new and continue to amplify Black stories in this sport. Check back here as we add more of these impactful leaders throughout the remainder of February.”

This article provides interesting history about significant people in the running world: Fred “Frank Hart” Hichborn, Wyomia Tyus, Florence “Flo-Jo” Joyner, Anthony “Tony” Reed, and Cecé Telfer.
