Letter from Executive Director
When markets tighten and consumer behavior shifts, “business as usual” quietly becomes a risk. The retailers who stay competitive are the ones who lean in — investing in smarter strategy, better information, stronger partnerships, and the tools that help them adapt as the market moves.
As new RIA Board President Eric Contreras said in the January Pulse, that mindset will drive the work of the RIA in 2026.
You’ll hear us talking often about where real opportunity exists in run specialty, what threats deserve attention, and — most importantly — what practical tools are available to help your business perform. Our focus will be simple: give you clarity, give you access, and give you resources you can actually use.
A big part of that effort starts with our upcoming RIA Huddles on February 24th and 25th. These conversations are designed to bring clarity to what retailers are seeing on the ground, exchange ideas that are working, and tackle challenges. Those who’ve participated in prior Huddles know that you can expect candid dialogue, useful takeaways, and perspectives you can put into actionable plans.
Another cornerstone of our support strategy is the RIA Summit, happening from May 18th to 21st in Atlanta.
Those who have attended RIA’s boutique, small group Summit in the past know it isn’t a traditional trade show — and we’re doubling down on that approach. This year’s event builds on the momentum of last year’s successful gathering and centers on meaningful connection, tailored to ensure each individual attendee gets what they want out of the show.
- Connection with top brands
- Exchanging ideas with fellow retailers
- Exposure to products that retain and attract customers to your stores.
Specifically, you’ll see less “talking at you” and far more retailers learning from each other on the topics that matter most. Expect dedicated time to work one-on-one with leading brand partners, exposure to emerging brands and fresh product stories, and access to insights that help you keep longtime customers engaged while attracting an entirely new generation into your stores.
The initial signups have been strong — the Summit is already halfway to capacity. So if you know you’re going to attend, now is the best time to commit. Early bird registration remains open through February 17th, and it’s the smartest way to secure your place. Register here now to claim your spot!
Additional Summit details will follow, but rest assured that the RIA team is working hard to deliver three highly productive days designed to strengthen your business and your network.
We look forward to seeing you there — and more importantly, to helping you compete with confidence in the year ahead.
